We’ve recently made multiple posts about how each behavior style has a central, core value. This doesn’t mean that value is limited to one style—they are often shared by all styles. They’re also not the only core value someone might have, but they usually take the spotlight depending on their style preference.
For those with a Stabilizer preference, Loyalty is their core value. This value links directly to the team-oriented, supportive way they work with others. Belonging and being part of a team are crucial for Stabilizers, and they prioritize family, friends, and close relationships. This is manifested in how they put their all into their work, even when things get tough.
Among the four patterns, Stabilizers are the most committed to keeping their promises, even when it’s challenging for them personally. They focus on fostering teamwork and often work behind the scenes to ease any conflicts within the team. Their steady and reliable nature is why they’re often seen as the “glue” that holds the group together.
When someone questions their honesty, effort, support, or commitment, it can be really confusing for them. Since their loyalty is deeply personal (not to be mistaken for personal relationships), they might take such doubts to heart and feel hurt. This can trigger the tension-reaction behavior of acquiescing, which is an overuse of their greatest strength (maintaining harmony) that relates to their driving need (security). By acquiescing they maintain a sense of harmony and security.
